Mike Hoy was employed by the Peoples Natural Gas Company for 37 years. He began as a clerk at the Brave Station in 1942 and became a machinist after a period of apprenticeship. In 1959 the Brave Plant closed and he was relocated to Leechburg where he worked until his retirement in 1980.
He was an army veteran of World War II enlisting on June 16, 1944. He trained in heavy weapons at Camp Blanding in Florida and was sent to Europe in November of 1944; entering combat with a rifle company. His unit designation was Co. E, 359th Infantry Regiment of the 90th Division and he was a participant in the "Battle of the Bulge" in Belgium. His record of citations and awards were the Good Combat Medal, EAME Theater Service Medal with two bronze stars and the Victory Medal. He was released from service on February 6, 1946 with a rank of Private First Class.
