Surviving, in addition to his wife Carol, are a daughter, Nancy Sadler and husband John of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Nathan, Adam and Aubrey Sadler, all of Cedar Rapids; and three nieces, Sarah Chastain, Martha Hammett and Paula Petersen, all of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Martha L. Johnson; and a brother, John F. Powell.
Robert was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Muskogee, Okla., the son of Otis A. And Gertrude L. Powell. He grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Oklahoma University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1941. He was one of five selected in Oklahoma County to enter the School of Medicine. He married Carol B. Calkins on Oct. 8, 1949 in Oklahoma City. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1949. He worked as a home builder for a short time. Then he started his own concrete business, R. T. Powell Construction Co., and retired in the early 1980s. He was a lifetime member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, past president of Cedar Rapids Home Builders Association, member of American Society for Concrete Construction, and past Elder and member of Central Park Presbyterian Church.
