Santa Clara, Utah - Philip Dale Blackburn, 94, passed away on March 31, 2014. He was born June 26, 1919 to Hershall Gordon and Bessie May Allen Blackburn. He married Bernice Beth Thorup in Heber City, Utah on July 22, 1938. Their marriage was solemnized in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple on May 9, 1952. Philip was a veteran of World War II having served in the Merchant Marine in the South Pacific. He attended school in the Granite School District. He enjoyed drawing, painting and woodworking. He worked in metal fabrication as a fabricator and in supervision both in Utah and in California where they lived from 1947-1976, returning to Ogden, Utah, retiring in 1985 and moving to Santa Clara, Utah in 1987. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many positions; Teacher of Priesthood, Gospel Doctrine, Seminary, High Council, Stake Clerk, two Bishoprics as Councilor, Bishop, Stake Mission, Full-time Mission, Ward Family History Consultant, Stake Family History Center Attendant and 25 years as a Temple Ordinance Worker. Philip was the father of three children: Philip, Jr., Renee and Dean; grandfather of nine; and great-grandfather of 25. Funeral services were held Friday, April 4, 2014 in Santa Clara, Utah, followed by interment in the Santa Clara City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary
