Dorothy was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1928. During her early adult years, Dorothy was employed by Hamilton Watch. After moving to North Carolina, she worked at Cone Mills and Flowers Industries, where she met her devoted husband, Harry Smaltz.
Dorothy's passion was cooking for family and friends. She was known for her baking and enjoyed inviting people to her home to experience a southern cooked meal. During the holidays, Dorothy would delight people with gifts of cookies and cakes.
Dorothy was a loving mother of two sons and grandmother. She is survived by her son, Richard Phillips, daughter in law, Janet Phillips and her grand daughters, Jessica Marsh and Kristina Fick.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Centenary United Methodist Church, where Dorothy was a member.
