Twin to Betty born to Thomas and Kate Brennan. Graduated from Cathedral Boys' High School in Springfield then joined the Navy where his training began Jul 1940 at the Great Lakes station. December 7, 1941 Robert was stationed at Honolulu, Hawaii aboard the USS Raleigh. He sustained injuries during the Japanese invasion and received the Purple Heart. He continued to serve until 1947 when he returned home.

Back in Springfield, Robert married Suzanne Reisch on 27 Sep 1947 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic church. They were the parents of 7 children - 5 sons and 2 daughters.

Robert Jr. passed in 1995 and Suzanne passed in 1994.
