Robert (Bobby, Q-ball) Vasquez, 78, of Gonzales, passed away at home Thursday, March 20, 2014, surrounded by his family, after a long illness from cancer. Robert was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Los Angeles.

He attended Soledad Grammar School and graduated from Gonzales High School. During high school, he played football and baseball. He served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1957. While stationed in Tennessee, he met and married his wife, Alma. They were married for 56 years.

During his 78 years, he worked for Mann Packing Co. for 35 years and was a truck driver for Prumo Trucking and Blacky Trucking for several years. During the 70's and 80's, he was a coach for Pop Warner and involved in Gonzales High School sports doing lots of amateur photography. He was a lifelong 49er and Giants fan and belonged to the niner nation. He loved going to Indian casinos from east coast to west coast.

He is survived by his wife, Alma; sons, Ronald of Marysville and Richard of Gonzales; daughters, Ellena Ramirez and Belen (Juan) Banuelos of Gonzales; brother, Phillip Vasquez of Ventura; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and his dog, Buddy; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Danny; mother, Vera Vasquez; father, Tony Vasquez, Sr.; brother, Tony Vasquez Jr.; and sister, Nellie Vasquez.

Robert's wishes are being followed that there be no services or celebrations. All who knew him may take a few moments to reflect on how you knew him. He donated his body to science, hopefully someone in the future may be helped.

He is deeply missed by all his family. The family would like to thank all the nurses and aides from Hospice of the Central Coast for their wonderful and caring help they gave Robert.
