Mary Jane Fryer was born February 15, 1920, the daughter of Cyril L. and Naomi (Harris) Jefferson in Woodbine, Iowa. As a young girl the family moved to Council Bluffs then to Omaha, Nebraska. She was baptized at the First Church of God in (Benson) Omaha, Nebraska. She was an active member, playing piano, teaching Sunday school and singing with her sister Virginia. In high school she loved music and drama and appeared several musicals. She graduated from Benson High School in 1938. She worked at Scientific Crystal in Council Bluffs during WWII.

She was married to Maynard F. Skarka and Richard T. Fryer. In Ames, Iowa she worked for 27 years at Iowa State University retiring on September 13, 1985. She moved to the Mountain Home area on October 6, 2001. "She always looked her best, loved her family and knew how to laugh".

Mary Jane is survived by her daughters Judy (Ivan) Palmateer of Ames, Iowa and Susan (Patrick) Jennings of Elizabeth, Arkansas, her brother Darrel (Shirlee) Jefferson of Omaha, Nebraska and 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister Virginia Bryan, 1 brother Jerome Jefferson, and grandson Joshua Jennings. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 5:00 P.M. at the Twin Lakes Cremation Society & Funeral Home in Bull Shoals. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.
