He was born in Newport, NH, on April 16, 1925, the son of Alfred J. and Ellen (Perry) Diotte. A Janesville resident since 1941, Al was a 1943 graduate of Janesville High School where he was class president, a 1950 graduate of Marquette University, and a 1952 graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Law. He served in the US Navy Air Corps and was a pilot in the Pacific theater during WWII. Al married Helen Foote on June 12, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Janesville. He practiced law with the law firm of Fett, Murphy, and Diotte until joining the Parker Pen Co. in 1954 where he served in a number of capacities, and retired in 1986 as Senior Vice President-Administration. Al was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Janesville Country Club, the YMCA, served on boards for Mercy Health System, M&I Bank, Janesville, Parker Pen, Manpower, and U-Rock Foundation. He and others founded the START program, was a charter member of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, former campaign chairman of United Way, a member of Forward Janesville, and enjoyed skiing, golfing, gardening, and biking.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; 3 children: Cathy Scott of Wauconda, IL, Cere (Jerry) Turner of Milton, and Peter (Mary) Diotte of Milwaukee; 3 grandchildren: Amy (Steve) Hall of Blue Mounds, WI, Emily Scott of Madison, and Ryan (Jenny) Steinke of Janesville; 3 great grandchildren: Ashley and Scott Hall, and Tyler Steinke; a brother, Robert (Joanne) Diotte of St. Petersburg, FL; and a sister, Shirley (Eldon) Kravick of Tequesta, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
