EX-SURROGATE JOHN M. GOULD DEAD.
Mr. John M. Gould, an old and respected resident of this city, died last night at his home, 213 Broadway, the picturesque old-time, rambling farmhouse of stone and wood just above Straight Street. This mansion and the grounds belonging to it are the remaining vestige of what was once the large Dickerson farm, well remembered by older residents, and which included the territory about from Straight Street east to Auburn, and from Broadway north to Tyler. Mr. Gould was a lawyer by profession, and occupied the office of Surrogate of Passaic County from 1855 to 1860, just preceding the late William Gledhill. In politics, Mr. Gould was a Democrat. He was a brother of Mr. Stephen Gould and of the late Judge Thomas Gould. His wife, who survives him, was a daughter of the Hon. Philemon Dickerson, a famous Democratic chieftain of his day, one of the foremost citizens of old Paterson, who held the office of Governor of New Jersey about sixty years ago, and was later a Congressman.
