Vivian Campbell Johnson, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, at the Capitol House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Vivian was born Aug. 27, 1933, in Tampa, Fla. She was a 1951 graduate of Hillsborough High School in Tampa and was honored in 1998 by induction into the Hillsborough High School Hall of Fame. She received a bachelor's degree in mathematics education from Florida State University in 1955 and a master's degree in mathematics from LSU in 1964. A high school mathematics teacher for 43 years, Vivian taught at Hillsborough High School, and in Baton Rouge, at Istrouma High School and Baton Rouge Magnet High School. For many years, she was active in Alpha Delta Kappa teachers sorority, serving in several leadership roles. She was also active in Mu Alpha Theta high school mathematics honorary society, acting as a school chapter sponsor and state sponsor for many years. As a Mu Alpha Theta state sponsor, she developed two mathematics games used in student tournament play, DesCartes and Hustle. Vivian was an ardent genealogist, making frequent family research investigations until prevented by illness. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dr. Guy Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, the Rev. Frances Hooton and the Rev. Richard Hooton of Many; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Martin Johnson and Dr. Sherri Johnson of Riverside, Calif.; and brother, Charles "Lindy" Campbell of Land O' Lakes, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, Varnum H. Campbell and Ruby Griffis Campbell; brother, Darius Campbell; sister, Cynthia Jones; and son, Guy W. Johnson Jr. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation at St. John's United Methodist Church, 9375 Highland Road, on Thursday from 1 p.m. until memorial service at 2 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Bill Youngblood and the Rev. Liz Wyatt.
