Frank M. Smith, 84, of 718 Clayton Ave. died at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday in the Chambersburg Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past year after suffering a stroke. He was critically ill since being admitted to the hospital June 23, when he suffered a fractured hip. He was born in Perry County, Sept. 25, 1896, son of the late Elmer E. and Annie E. (Brunner) Smith. He was raised at the Quincy Orphanage. He and his wife were married in December 1916 and moved to the Clayton Avenue residence from Quincy in 1939.
Prior to his retirement in 1961 he was employed in the engineering department at Landis Tool Co. for 45 years. His wife, Mrs. Lily M. (Friese) Smith, died in July 1971. He was a member of the Quincy United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Landis Tool Co. Foremen's Club and the Waynesboro Chapter AARP.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Burr W. Beard, Lititz, son, Richard B. Smith, Old Mill Road, Waynesboro, five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Quincy United Methodist Church in charge of the Rev. Douglas Compton. Burial will be in the Quincy Cemetery. Friends may call at the Grove Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
