Sgt. Derek M. Sheppard, 24, of Amarillo died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James M. Mims, pastor, and the Rev. Eric J. Mims Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St.

Derek was born March 25, 1984, in Borger. He was a member of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church. He was a 1999 graduate of Palo Duro High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in San Diego.

Survivors include his parents, L.M. and Ernestine Sheppard of Amarillo; four brothers, L.M. Sheppard Jr., Alvil Sheppard, Quentin Sheppard and Terrance Sheppard; five sisters, Shelia Powell and husband Robert, Mary Sheppard, Sherea Sheppard, Phyllis Osikha and Lisa Johnson; his best friends, Cameron Shaffer and Sgt. Mike Mead; and a host of other loved ones, relatives and friends.
