Oliver was baptized "Felix Olivier Daigle", the son of Jean Pierre Daigle and Marie Marguerite Houde. He was born November 19, 1823, and baptized November 20, 1823 at Saint Jacques, Montcalm, Quebec.

Oliver and Delia moved their young family to Monroe County, Michigan about 1847. Through the years, he farmed in the Erie, Berlin and Ash Townships.

The French spelling of the family name was Daigle. After moving to Michigan, the spelling took many different forms, the most common spelling becoming Degg.
