Daughter of Frederick McKinney and Catherine C. Kelley. She married George Thomas Apolzon.

Beatrice M. " Billie" Apolzon, 86 (nee McKinney) of Vermilion died on Thursday, July 1, 2004, at New Life Hospice Center at St. Joseph in Lorain, OH following a very short illness.

Mrs. Apolzon was born on August 28, 1917, in Elyria and lived in this area all her life.

She was a 1935 graduate of Lorain High School and a devout member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher and very active in Altar Guild.

She and her husband owned and operated the former Lad & Lassie Children Clothing Store in Lorain during the 1940s. Later she helped her husband found Marathon Steel Products. All her life she was a mother and dedicated homemaker.

Mrs. Apolzon was a former member of Children's Conservation League. She volunteered at Community Health Partners & Surgical Center for 24 years, leaving that post just 2 weeks ago. She was responsible for the greeting card section of the gift shop. She also worked at the front reception desk, delivered mail and performed other duties in the gift shop.

She is survived by two sons: George T. Apolzon, Jr. of Austin, TX and Lawrence Eli Apolzon of New York, NY; three daughters: the Rev. Donna L. Apolzon Glazier of Logansport, IN, Linda Rae Neilson of Nashville, TN, Gayle C. Haskell of Huber Heights, OH; 14 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Apolzon is preceded in death by her parents: Frederick and Catherine C. (nee Kelley) McKinney; a brother Frederick W. McKinney who died in the Battle of the Bulge during WW II, and a sister Minnie Monje.

Friends may call at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH, on Monday, July 5, 2004, from 4-7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 603 Washington Ave., Lorain, OH, with the Rev. Dr. L.H. Chamberlain and the Rev. Jimmy Madsen, co-pastors, officiating.

Beatrice M. Apolzon will be buried at Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Amherst Twp., OH.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 603 Washington Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44052 or the charity of the donor's choice.
