Samuel Egbert was born March 24, 1814 in Breckinridge, Harrison County, Kentucky to John Egbert and Susannah Hahn.

History - Samuel came to Utah on October 15, 1849, with the Allen Taylor Company. He established his family home at West Jordan where he was a school teacher for a time and later prominent as a farmer and stockraiser. Samuel operated the first Molasses mill in West Jordan, Salt Lake County, Utah He was an Indian War Veteran. According to Mr. Henry Byram Beckstead, a nephew of Mr. Egbert, it was John Egbert, a son of Samuel Egbert, who uncovered the galena ore in Bingham Canyon while dragging logs there in Sept. 1863.
