Mary Joanne (MacLeod) Graves 77, affectionately known as "Joanne" and by some as "Josie", passed away at her home on Monday April 7th, 2014 after a long illness; surrounded by her loving family. Joanne was born in Lawrence, MA on January 29, 1937, a daughter of the late Donald D. MacLeod and June MacLeod; but was a resident of East Longmeadow for over 50 years. Joanne was a peacetime veteran of the United States Navy, serving two years as a hospital corpsman.Joanne was last employed by the American Legion Post #293, East Longmeadow. She was a member of the Women's American Legion Auxiliary Post #420, East Springfield. Joanne was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Clifton Graves in 2005; and by her sister, Mary "Christine" Paquin in 1989. Joanne is survived by her children, Donna "Donie" Gore and her spouse Scott, of Old Saybrook, CT, Carolyn VanOssenbruggen of Ludlow, Catherine Dodge and her fiancé Henry Record, of East Longmeadow, Clifton "Mike" Graves and his fiancée Jennifer Ayala-Cordeau, of Melbourne, FL;2 brothers, Dickerson "Rusty" MacLeod of Ferndale, WA, Christopher MacLeod and spouse Mary of Parker, CO; a brother in law, Leo Paquin of Florida. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, William and his spouse Lisa, Brooke, Shaun and his spouse Casey, Max, Rebecca, Christopher, Alexandria, Kailia, Zoie, Timothy and Meghan;5 great grandchildren, William, Colin, Delaney, Kira, and Jayden. Joanne is also survived by many nieces and nephews.Her family wishes to thank the entire Baystate Medical Hospice Team including the volunteers, who tirelessly gave of themselves to both Joanne and her family. The love, compassion and care will always be remembered. The family will receive friends on Tuesday (April 15th, 2014) from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral and Cremation, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow (413) 525-2800. A funeral home service will commence at 1:00 PM. Joanne will be laid to rest immediately following and with military honors in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
