John A. McCutcheon, 68, of 1125 1/2 3rd Ave, Rock Island, died at 1:30 p.m. yesterday in St. Anthony's Hospital.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. The Rev. F.W. Willey, pastor of the Memorial Christian Church, Rock Island, will officiate. Burial will be in the Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Gustav C Lannoo Post No. 1303, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 tonight.
Mr. McCutcheon was born Dec. 16, 1896 in Springfield, a son of James and Mary McCutcheon. He received his education in Marquette, Kan. He married Mary Allen Oct. 25, 1920 in Decatur. He had resided in Rock Island for the past 30 years. He had been employed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers, Rock Island Arsenal, for 22 years. After his retirement he was employed as an elevator operator for the Rock Island Bank & Trust Co.
He was a veteran of World War II, a past commander of the VFW Post and the Rock Island Barracks No. 410, veterans of World War I, member of the Last Man's Club.
Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Betty McCarty of Ridgecrest, Calif.; a son, James A. of Lincoln, and two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Denner and Mrs. Mary Wendell, both of Decatur.
His parents and a daughter preceded him in death.
