A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 16, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave S., Clear Lake, with Rev. John Gossman officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, IA, with a Scriptural Wake service at 7:00 PM; and one hour preceding the service at the church. Inurnment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City, IA. Memorials may be given to the Michael Allison Memorial Fund.
Mike was born August 29, 1940 at Mason City, IA, the son of Max I. and Mary Jane (Quinn) Allison. He graduated from Holy Family High School in 1958; Mason City Jr. College in 1960 and the University of Iowa Law School in 1964 with a Juris Doctorate.
Mike married Mary Ellen Derenthal September 15, 1962 at the Holy Family Church in Mason City. Following school, they moved back to Mason City where he practiced law with Larry Mason. He practiced law in Rockford from 1965 until 2002. He was appointed Magistrate of Floyd Co in 1982, retiring in 2008.
While in Rockford with his wife, raising five sons, he enjoyed participating in Boy Scouts as his boys went thru the program. In retirement, they moved to Clear Lake in 2008. He enjoyed sailing, spending time on his pontoon and just being on the lake. He loved traveling, reading, playing bridge, walking and biking around the lake. Mike and Mary Ellen cherished their family gatherings.
He was a former member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Rockford, IA and current member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.
Mike is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Allison, Clear Lake, IA; five sons Jon (Karen) Allison, Clear Lake, IA, Tim (Gerri) Allison, Mason City, IA, Matt (Kristi) Allison, Ankeny, IA, Pat (Sheila) Allison, Mason City, IA and Chris (Kristy) Allison, Algona, IA; twelve grandchildren Erica (Mike) McCarty, Autumn (Chris) Dillavou, Treslyn Allison, Dylan Allison, Whitney Allison, Max Allison, Evelyn Allison, Anna Allison, Caitlin Allison, Logan Allison, Maddie Rath and Alex Rath, four great grandchildren; two brothers Phil (Gail) Allison, Clear Lake, IA and Dennis Allison, Denver, CO; two sisters Cindy Blanchard, Knoxville, TN and Linda (Scott) Rogers, Altoona, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Tony and Steve Allison, and nephews Brad Blanchard and David Burke.
