Walter F. Chipman, 72, of 5016 Second Way, a diesel mechanic for the former Quonset Point Naval Air Station, North Kingstown, for 22 years before retiring in 1975, died Saturday at North Ridge Hospital, Fort Lauderdale. He was the husband of Irene H. (Duffy) Chipman.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Walter E. and Margaret (Keeler) Chipman, he lived in Cranston for most of his life, and in Jerusalem, R.I., for eight years before moving to Pompano Beach five years ago.
He was a Seabees veteran of World War II.
Besides his wife he leaves a son, Robert E. Chipman of Boxford, Mass.; a brother, Edward G. Chipman of Pompano Beach; and a sister, Dorothy R. Atherton of Westerly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at noon at St. Francis Church, High Street, Wakefield. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale.
He was a United States Navy Seabee veteran of World War II.
Besides his wife he leaves a son, Robert E. Chipman of Boxford, Mass.; a brother, Edward G. Chipman of Pompano Beach; and a sister, Dorothy R. Atherton of Westerly.
