Opal Peters Baum passed away on April 11, 2014, at the age of 96. She resided at Tealridge Christian Retirement Community, Edmond, OK.

Opal (Gran) was born Dec. 22, 1917, east of Duncan, OK, to the late Carl and Angie Daniels. She had 3 brothers and 1 sister. On Feb 14, 1936, she married John Peters and they resided in Velma, OK. They were blessed with 3 children: Ina, Linda, and Dan.

She worked for the Velma Schools as the superintendent's secretary for 25 years, retiring in 1976.

Gran loved the Lord, her family, and her friends. She was so proud of her family and loved spending time with them. She was always looking forward to the next family get-together. She was a long time member of the Cherokee Hills Church of Christ in Oklahoma City. She dearly loved her fellow church friends, she was always the one to make strangers feel at home. When you became Gran's friend, you were a friend for life.

Gran was proud to be a quilter--she made too many to count for her family and friends. Gran always looked forward every year to harvest, because that's when she went to the "farm" (Patricia and Clark's) to cook for the harvest hands. She was known for her cookies, cobblers, and fried pies! After harvest, she looked forward to going to the beach (Outer Banks, North Carolina) with Linda, Charles, their children, grandchildren, and Ina. For many years she was able to go to Camp Pettijohn for a week of fellowship with fellow Christians, where she was proud to win the "Methuselah" award for oldest camper!

Opal is survived by her children and spouses: Ina Smith, Linda Collier (Charles), Dan Peters (Cynthia); her grandchildren and spouses: Opal Lea Rorabaugh (Rex), Jeannie Boevers (Keith), Patricia Vilhauer (Clark), Joe Smith Jr. (Jill), Charlotte Lesando (Dan), Keith Collier (Melissa), Dale Peters (Ronda), Bryan Peters (Brandy); 26 great-grandchildren and spouses; and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Gran is preceded in death by her husband John, her siblings, her parents, and her son-in-law, J. D. Smith.

Her grandchildren will serve as pall bearers.

Gran was so loved by all and we will miss her sweet smile and her laugh.
