Funeral services for Mrs. L.L. Abbey, 84, who died Saturday at the Hawarden hospital following a lingering illness, were held at 2 o'clock Monday at the Associated church. Rev. William Sebring officiated with burial in Grace Hill cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral home.
Mrs. Ralph Gregg, jr., was the soloist with Mrs. Hal Shoemaker at the organ.
Casket bearers were Roy Abbey, Lewis Abbey, Dale Abbey, Edwin Glade, James Younie and Bernard Goodmason.
Eliza Jane Montgomery was born on a farm near Coggon, Iowa, to William and Rebecca Patton Montgomery August 28, 1878.
She married Louie L. Abbey on December 30, 1904, and they lived near Ryan, Iowa, four years after which they moved to the Abbey farm near Hawarden.
She became a member of the Presbyterian church at an early age, later transferring to the Associated church in Hawarden. She was a member of the Women's Fellowship, the Sewing Circle, and the Busy Bee Club.
Mrs. Abbey was preceded in death by a daughter, Alleda, two sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include the widower; two sisters, Mrs. Malinda Preston of Manchester and Mrs. Nelle Larson of Hawarden; a granddaughter, Mrs. Marlys Schmidt; a great grandson, Kenneth Schmidt, and several nieces and nephews.
