Richard Norling was born June 25, 1936 on the family farm in rural Clay County, SD near Beresford, to parents Arthur and Amy (Berquist) Norling. He died June 14, 2009 at his farm, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 20 days.

Dick attended Glenwood rural school and graduated from Beresford High School in 1954. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the Beresford area and resumed farming with his brothers. Dick married Annadell Austin. He was a lifelong farmer, and even after retiring, Dick still enjoyed helping with farming whenever he was asked. The couple resided on the Norling family farm their entire married lives.

Dick attended Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church as a child. He later became a member of Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville where he served on the church council and was currently a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Dick loved sports. He played football and baseball when he was younger. When his baseball coach would need him to pitch he would come and pick him up in the field he was working in. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. When the Twins were playing bad, Dick would often read his Bible instead of watching the game. He read that Bible many times. He also followed the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He proudly had a red N painted on one of his farm buildings. He told people that when the Huskers were winning it stood for Nebraska. When they were losing it stood for Norling. His other hobbies included going to town to have coffee with the guys, keeping a well manicured lawn, and maintaining his cars and machinery in tip-top condition. Dick had a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and a gentle smile. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Milo and three sisters, Norma Norling, Donna LaFurge and Betty Volden.

He is survived by his wife Annadell; sister Joy (Bill); three brothers: John, Art (Arlys) and Charles (Lois); and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, June 18 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Visitation with family present will be Wednesday from 6PM to 8PM at the church. Visit www.wassfuneralhome.com for an online registry.
