Olan D. "Doug" Tate, 85 years old, of Janesville, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 14, 2005, at home. Doug was born on Jan. 22, 1920, in Odell, TX, the son of Oscar Earl and Bessie Lorena (Moon) Tate. He moved to Chicago, IL, in 1936 and was inducted into the U.S. Army on Jan. 13, 1942, and served his country during World War II as a motor pool sergeant. After the war he moved back to Chicago where he owned and operated gas stations. On Feb. 14, 1948, Doug married Vivian Ethyl Swenson in Chicago. They moved to Janesville that year and Doug owned and operated the Mobil gas station on the corner of Center and State Streets. In 1952 he acquired a Snap-On Tools dealership which he ran for 32 years. Survivors include his son, Larry Tate of Amherst, WI; and close neighbors and friends. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, on Aug. 30, 2002.
