Alfred W. Olsen, 90, of Waukon, IA, formerly of Lansing, IA, died Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 10th, at 1:00 PM at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Lansing, IA, with Pastor Bryan Robertson officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a limited attendance service will be held and social distancing and wearing of masks is required.

Memorials may be sent to the Allamakee County Veterans Affairs Office, c/o Allamakee County Courthouse, 110 Allamakee Street, Waukon, IA 52172.

Alfred Willard Olsen was born February 3,1930, in Lansing, IA, one of nine children of Berger and Jeanette (Johnson) Olsen.

After school, he served in the United States Army from 1951-1953, and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

Raised in Lansing and a resident of Waukon, IA, he loved the natural scenic beauty of the area and stayed here for his entire life.

On April 10, 1970, he married Florence Mae (Weipert) Snitker in Caledonia, MN.

Alfred was known for his carpentry skills and worked for many Allamakee County families, building and renovating homes.

As a hobby in retirement, he used his carpentry skills to build bird houses, cabinetry, and other woodworking projects.

He and Florence enjoyed traveling and since Alfred loved country music, they made a special trip to Nashville, TN, for their anniversary one year.

He is survived by his two step-children: Wayne (Hui Suk) Snitker of Tennessee and Carrie (Martin) Stilwell of Florida; step-grandchildren: John, Linda, and Jason Snitker, and Rachel, Philip, and John Bush; and his siblings: Eleanor Thorpe of Cedar Rapids, IA, Leroy (Shirley) Olsen of Marshalltown, IA, and Jim (Jan) Olsen of Lowden, IA; and a sister-in-law Charlette Olsen of Cedar Rapids, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Florence, who died in 2014; a step-daughter Constance Snitker; and his siblings: Mildred (Harold) Bechtel, Joseph (Arlene) Olsen, Elmer (Charlette) Olsen, Floyd (Judy) Olsen, and Harvey Olsen; and a brother-in-law Gene Thorpe.

Casketbearers are Jim, Leroy, and Jerry Olsen, and Dale Wlochal
