Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was enrolled in the 15th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on July 25, 1862, and was mustered in as a Private in Company B on August 25, 1862. He served with the 15th NJ until January 10, 1865, when he was transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps. He spent the rest of the war with the VRC, and was honorably mustered out on July 12, 1865.

He was the husband of Catherine Allen.
