U.S. Congressman. Immigrating to America with his parents in 1907, he graduated from New York University, in 1925, from its law school in 1929, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in New York City. He was assistant district attorney of Queens County, (1932-33), special United States Attorney for the Department of Justice, (1933-35) and a member of the Queens County Democratic Executive Committee, (1930-35). In 1935, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of William F. Brunner, reelected to the Seventy-fifth Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until his death from pneumonia at age 44.
