"Miss Kate D. McNutt, a resident nearly all her life of Tazewell county, living in the vicinity of Deer Creek, died at the home of her nephew in Boulder, Col., on Nov. 7 [9th], where with her brother [John D.] she had gone to make her home a few years ago. Miss McNutt was aged 96 years. She originally came from Pennsylvania with her parents, three sisters and three brothers to Ohio. From there she came with her mother and brother and family to Illinois, settling near Deer Creek. She was a fine type of woman, loved and revered by her neighbors—mankind's best tribute to nobility of character. The remains were brought back to Deer Creek for burial. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Sunday morning. The deceased was an aunt of Mrs. John McDowell and Mrs. Chas. Kunkle of this city, and they with their husbands attended the funeral." Delavan Tri-County Times (Delavan, Il.) 15 Nov 1911, p. 6.
