Mary J. (García) Montaño, age 92, went to be with The Lord on April 11, 2014.
Mary (called Nanny by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren), a lifelong resident of Old Town and Albuquerque's South Valley, was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Patricio "Pat" M. Montaño, her parents, Luisa López García and Ambrosio García, brothers, Ambrosio Jr. and Joe, sister Emma, and her grandson, Kyle Almeida.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Patricia "Patsy" McDaniel and her husband, Don, and their daughter, Jennifer and son, Sean, son, LeRoy Montaño, daughters, Rebecca Baker and Elizabeth Almeida and her husband, Rich. Mary is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer, Haley, Christopher and Nicole, by great-grandchildren, Amara, Mason, Dalton and Tyler and by her sister, Eloisa Rozzi. Mary's mother passed away when Mary was just 13, placing her in the motherhood role for her younger brothers and sisters, and making her widowed father heavily dependent upon her. When Mary's sisters grew older, Mary worked outside the home for the Bluestein family. Mary, a devoted Catholic, placed her total faith in The Lord. Mary constantly took care of others, her own family and her extended family. Mary is well remembered for her exceptional cooking - no one ever left her table hungry! Mary could easily have been a banker - she could always stretch a limited budget to take care of many.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church in Old Town, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. the next day, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 also at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. A private burial for the immediate family will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Mary asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
