Keith died on August 22, 1963 in an explosion at the Texas Gulf Potash mine near Moab Utah. There were 25 miners trapped 2,700 feet below the surface, in the explosion. 7 miners were rescued alive, leaving the final death toll to 18. It was on the 4th. day that the final bodies were found and removed from the mine.
Services for Keith were held September 3,1963 at the Assembly of God church in Dove Creek CO. Rev. Nick Resovich officiated. Burial was in the Dove Creek Cemetery.
Keith is survived by his wife, Lynn and small son Gary Lee Schear. Also surviving are His father, Glen Schear: four brothers, Raymond, Delbert, Johnnie and Elden; three sisters, Zelda, Betty and Carol.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Zelpha and an infant son, Roy Dale Schear in 1962 (#12819869).
