David Hemphill, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Hemphill, formerly of Dove Creek CO, was fatally injured when he was caught in a snow slide near Leadville CO., early Sunday morning, January 31, 1965. Mr. Hemphill was working at the Homestake Tunnel for Mr. Jack Bond. He was running a slusher outside the mine tunnel on the graveyard shift, when the slide started 12 hundred feet up the mountain. He did not have a chance ot excape and death was instanious.
Funeral arrangments are being made to return the body to Dove Creek. Final services will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm at the Dove Creek Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. John Carr officiating. Interment will in the Dove Creek Cemetery.
David Hemphill leaves his widow, Nita Jean (Crawford) Hemphill; five children, Leon, Rebecca, Debra, Kay, and Cliffie. His parents Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Hemphill of Farmington NM and four brothers.
