BIXLER, CHARLES, R. (BUD) Age 83. He was born on a farm in Quincy, Iowa on May 18, 1923 and passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on May 2, 2007. Bud graduated from Corning High School in Southwestern Iowa in 1941. He attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska until he was drafted in the US Army in 1942. Bud was sent to Camp Roberts just north from San Louis Obispo for basic training and then ended up in the 101st Airborne Screaming EaglesDivision, 327 Company. They were some of the first to parachute in behind enemy line on D-day. His tour included four parachute jumps and one glider landing - (his least favorite). Bud received one Bronze Star, four Bronze Battle Stars, Distinguish Unit Badge, Four Overseas Service Bars. He was in "The Battle of the Bulge". His company guarded Hitler's hideout in Berchtesgaden, and Goering stolen art collection. He was only one of 12 survivors of 175 men of his company. A True War Hero! Although he never would admit it. After the War Bud returned to Iowa in 1945 and married Ruth Mc Elroy in 1947. They had their son Fred in 1949, and moved to San Diego, California in 1952. Bud and Ruth had their daughter Janelle in 1954. The Bixlers relocated their family to Orange County, California in 1960, and moved to Lake Elsinore, California 1n 1983. Bud retired, after 20 years as a truck salesman from Carmenita Truck Center in 1991. He dedicated his retirement years to his life passion of rebuilding and selling old Chevy trucks. He was very well known in the US, as well as in Europe for his expertise of 1955-1959 Chevy trucks. Bud was a proud member of "The Greatest Generation". Bud was preceded in death by his son Fred in 1996. He is survived by his loving wife Ruth, daughter Janelle, grandchildren Jamie and Dennis, brother Wayne, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all those who knew him. Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Special thanks to Mercy Air and Cornerstone Hospice. In lieu of flowers donate to Cornerstone Hospice - 1461 E. Cooley Dr., Ste 220, Colton, CA 92324
