Born in Logan Twp., Blair Co., Pa., the daughter of John and Catherine (Hughes) Butterbaugh. In 1870, she was living with her widowed mother, and had three children, Alice, William and Albert Butterbaugh. Alice's father was a Kilda/Kilday, possibly the John Kilday who lived close by in Altoona. In 1872 Leah was briefly married to Albert Sanders of Duncansville, who was probably the father of Albert Jr., and possibly the father of William. Both sons died young. She and Albert were divorced, and she moved to Clarion county, living with William H. Rupert. She and Rupert had three children, Colonel Roy Rupert, David F. Rupert and Florence Rupert Carr. In 1902, after Rupert's death, she married Peter Painter, a widower. She died in Licking Twp., Clarion Co.
