Jim was quite the character. My grandmother tells stories of visiting uncle Jim in Milwaukee where he was always involved in something bizarre, whether it be "hot engines," Irish setters, canaries, illicit liquor, illegal bread distribution, and I'm sure many more shenanigans. He ran a tavern/road house in the Milwaukee area at some point probably during the 1940s. In his teens, Jim was also involved in showing horses his father raised, at local fairs and other events in Wisconsin. Jim was also involved in raising and showing chickens of all varieties.

Jim was married three times (at least). First to a woman whose stage name was Ione Love. We do not yet know her real name or anything about her other than the name. She and Jim toured the country dancing. She is said to have died out east during the Spanish flu epidemic. Jim then married Loretta Reese. They divorced around 1928 but were remarried at some point after that, before again divorcing. They had no children. Third he married Lorraine Deckert in 1944 and they had one son together.
