Harold Tobey Chick, 53, of West Shore Drive, Loon Pond, died late March 21 night at a Sanford hospital. He was taken there from his home after suffering a self-inflicted gun shot wound, according to the York County Sheriff's Department.
He was born at Kittery, the son of Edward and Carrie Staples Chick, and had resided here the last 11 years, coming here from Eliot. He retired in 1976 from the Kittery Highway Department where he was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for nine years.
Prior to that, he had worked at Martin's garage, Kittery for several years; formerly operating the Woodbury Avenue Citgo Station in Portsmouth NH, for several years and also worked as a mechanic for the former Cote Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Portsmouth for 17 years.
Besides his mother, Mrs. Carrie Goerner of Fitchburg, MA, Mr. Chick is survived by five sons, Gerald T. Chick of Eliot, Donald S. Chick of Somersworth, NH, Harold Randy Chick of Springvale, Glen Chick of Sanford and John of Acton; a stepson Robert Curtis; a daughter, Linda Lirette of Milton NH; a stepdaughter, Rose Marie Curtis of Farmington NH; 3 brothers, Edward Jr of Wichita, TX; Richard of Acton and Wayne of South Berwick; 3 sisters, Meda Johnson of Acton, Frances Olcott of Moriah NY and Betty Goerner of North Leominster MA and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 24 at the Heald Funeral Home, 61 Main St, Springvale. The Rev. Kenneth D. Keating of Springvale, officiated. Spring interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, South Acton.
