John Henry Bur, age 74 of Cheboygan passed away Thursday, November 26, 2009 at the Hospice House. He was born December 24, 1934 in Cheboygan to Leonard and Martha (Brovage) Bur. On July 10, 1965 John married Elizabeth J. "Betty" McGreevy at St. Anne's Catholic Church on Mackinaw Island. John worked at Plymouth Industries, Center Tool and Machine and finally Proctor and Gamble retiring in 1990. He served in the Army National Guard from 1954-1960 and enjoyed hunting and ice fishing.
Survivors include his wife Betty, three children, James, Jean and Ruth, all of Cheboygan, one brother, Richard (Felicia) Bur of Gaylord, two sisters, Catherine Socolovitch and Helen Bur, both of Cheboygan, twin grandsons, Jason and Joseph Percy, five nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins as well as his good neighbors, the Weldons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Richard Socolovitch. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riggsville with Rev. Paul Megge officiating.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the care and attention given to John from Dr. Baltzer, Dr. Slater and everyone associated with the Hospice House. A special thank-you to Debbie, Evelyn, Laurie, Norma, Pam, Sharon and Susan.
