Michel Aurnague passed away peacefully at Saint Mary's Hospital while holding the hand of his beloved wife Jeanne Marie of 50 years and his son Michel. Born in St. Etienne de Baigorry in the Basque country of France, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1952. He began his American journey in Wyoming as a sheepherder. Eventually he arrived in Reno NV to begin his life long career in the restaurant business. He literally served the Reno and Carson City community as Chef for Eugene's Restaurant, Newt Crumley's Holiday Casino Hotel, and Paul Laxalt's Ormsby House Hotel and Casino to name a few. He managed the restaurants at the Washoe County and Stead golf courses for 25 years until his retirement.

Michel enjoyed singing Basque folk songs with his friends from the Basque country often playing cards, telling stories and making jokes. He took an interest in nearly everybody he met and helped Basque immigrants to find steady work and navigate the immigration process.

Michel had many hobbies, enjoyed the outdoors and especially fishing the many fishing holes of Northern Nevada. Michel enjoyed gardening with his wife raising fruit trees and a variety of vegetables.

In addition to Jeanne Marie, he is survived by his son Michel, his cousins Jean Michel Aurnague (Francoise), Dominique Aurnague, Michel Aurnague (Yvonne) all from the Basque country of France; Pillippe Garay of Brazil; Marleen Furgeson ( James), Jeanne Marie Aurnague of California; sister-in-law Monique Falxa; niece Beatrice Imoos (Ryan), nephews John Falxa and Remy and Adam Imoos all of California; and many friends and family from Reno, California and Basque country.

Michel will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd at 7:00 pm at Walton Funeral Home, 875 W. 2nd Street, Reno. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 24th at 1:00 pm at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, Kings Row and Wyoming. Entombment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery
