Leonard L. Gentner died June 17th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sherman W. Freeman in New Haven, Conn., where he had been ill for about three weeks. His death was caused by paralysis, but he had failed gradually since the death, March 29, 1910, of his only son Henry. Mr. Gentner was born in
Waldo, the son of the late Henry N. and Sarah S. Gentner.

He was always fond of horses and engaged in the livery business when first coming to Belfast. At his death he was a member of the livery firm of Gentner & Colcord. He always owned several race horses. He was part owner of the Windsor Hotel in Belfast. For years Mr. Gentner conducted a saloon in Belfast and later moved to Providence, R. I., where he engaged in the same business.

He was twice married. His first wife, the mother of his two children, was Willette Clements of Waldo, who died many years ago. Later he married Mrs. Faustina Ellingwood, who resides in Providence.

His death is a severe blow to his daughter and his granddaughter, Miss Dorothy Freeman, to whom he clung to in his last illness and wanted her constantly near him.

Five sisters and one brother survive: Mrs. Etta Small of Thorndike, Mrs. Ada M. Peavey of Citypoint, Mrs. Abbie Holmes of Augusta, Mrs. Evie Blanchard of Mars Hill, Mrs. Zadie Berry of Brockton, Mass., and W. A. Gentner of Hartford, Conn.

The remains arrived by boat Wednesday morning and the funeral was held at his late home on
Church Street at 2 p. m., Rev. Arthur A. Blair officiating. The bearers were Messrs. M. R. and C. M. Knowlton, W. G. Preston, Jesse Staples, E. A Jones and Amos A. Colcord.
