Miss Blanche Bain, former Winterset resident, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines last Wednesday night, after an extended illness. Miss Bain was born and raised in Winterset and for thirty years worked in a telephone office. Her health made it necessary for her to give up her work in 1931 and she has been ill with nervous trouble since then. She has been making her home with her brother, Roy, in Des Moines, and was only in the hospital several days previous to her death.

Miss Bain first worked for the Old Hawkeye Telephone company from 1900 to 1911 or when the company was sold to the Iowa Telephone company. She started working for the Northwestern Bell in March 1912 as collector. She was later clerk and then served as manager of the local office from 1918 to 1926. In 1926 the company changed their policy and had their manager also be wire chief. Following this Miss Bain was clerk.
