*************
Raymond (Ray) Darrell Taylor was born in Royal, OK on December 29, 1929 to Ewell and Flora Taylor. Growing up with two brothers, Donald and John and two sisters, Joanne and Wandell, Raymond quickly became known as "Baldy" stemming from light complexion and very little blond hair. Family often used that name in terms of endearment however later in life that nickname could evolve into fightin' words. Ray was known for having a quick temper and never backing down from a confrontation. While in his younger days that landed him in plenty of unusual circumstances, the fighting proved beneficial in the last few years of his failing health.

Ray married Emma Jean Brinkley in 1948 in Roswell, NM and moved to California after their son, Darrell Ray's, birth in 1949. Ray and Emma completed their family welcoming daughters, Janice and Beverly Jean. Ray worked 25 years in citrus farming/ranching for the Ball Emery Citrus Ranch located on the east end of Tea Pot Dome Ave in Porterville, CA. Later in life, he joined his brother John in the glass business in Sacramento, CA.

Ray enjoyed life the most when he was doing anything with his horses. Team roping was a favorite and riding/packing into the backcountry, especially Trout and Kern Meadows. Ray was instrumental in forming the Orange Belt Saddle Club and the Success Gymkhana, providing hours of entertainment for children and adults. He also spent hours preparing for the Porterville Rodeo, once held where the Speedway is currently located. He had a fondness for Country & Western Music and was often found two-stepping his way through Friday and Saturday nights and having a few cold beers.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Emma Jean, brother Donald Taylor and sister Wandell Teal. Surviving family includes sister Joanne Swearingen of Porterville and John Taylor of Sacramento, son Darrell Taylor of Strathmore, daughters Janice Castle of Porterville and Beverly Cranfill of Seattle, WA. Grandchildren, Chrissy (Donnie) Wilson, Megan (Chad) Crabtree of Porterville, Steven Leslie of Tulare, CA, Kevin Leslie of Seattle, WA, Shelley Phillips of Strathmore, CA, Clayton (Lindsey) Taylor of Los Angeles, CA, Shree Kelley, Amber Thompson, Cody Cranfill of Seattle, WA and Kaylee Sparks of Rapid City, SD. Nicole (Bryan) Ray of Woodlake, CA and Jared Castle of Visalia, CA.

20 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild and many nieces, nephews, friends and family will miss him.

Visitation will be held at Myers Chapel on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Ray's last ride will begin at Myers Funeral Home on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 9:00 a.m., with his casket placed on a wagon pulled by a team of mules to his final resting place, Vandalia Cemetery, with graveside services at 10:00 a.m. All are encouraged to join the procession and wear their Wranglers.
