Muncie - MUNCIE- Robert E. Steele, 83, passed away Tuesday evening, April 22, 2014 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 4, 1931 in Muncie, the son of Euvene and Chrystal (Yockey) Steele. Robert graduated from Greenville, Ohio High School and attended Ball State University. He served his country honorably in the US Marines.

Robert worked as personnel manager for several area factories; the Muncie Employment Office for 10 years; and he and his wife Cheryl were part-owners and administrators of Chrystal’s Country Home in Parker City for 20 years until his retirement in 1993.

Surviving are his wife of over 44 years, Cheryl J. Steele of Muncie; five children, Jane Anne Johnson (husband, Kirby) of Muncie, Robert J. Steele of Muncie, Mary Rollins of Muncie, Patty Pariseau of Ellettsville and Timothy Steele of Muncie; twelve grandchildren, Kirby Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Keith Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Stacey Stewart, Lara Sproessig, Kelsey Everling, Ashley Pariseau, Danielle Cushion, Jessie Rigney, Lindsey Peters and Nicholas Steele; eighteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Virgil Steele (wife, Jane) of Farmland; three sisters, Sue Fosco of Las Vegas, NV, Vondalee Steele of Muncie and Judy Polson of Clarksville, TN; a special cousin, Dixana Van Camp (husband, Chuck) of Muncie and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Mark Garringer officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery with full military honors by The Veterans of Delaware County.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 25, 2014 or one hour prior to services on Saturday.
