Charles Herman Abbott, resident of the Lodi district since 1907, passed away yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R.C. Sheldon at San Jose, following a two weeks' illness. He was born in Ohio, November 16, 1856, and was aged 81 years, two months and 16 days.
From 1895 to 1900 Mr. Abbott was active in evangelistic work for the Seventh-day Adventist church in Kansas and Wyoming.
He moved to California with his family in the fall of 1904 and located near Hollister. He came to Lodi in the spring of 1907 and since that time has resided here. He following building and carpenter work until the last few years. The family home has been maintained at route 3, box 192, on Walnut avenue.
Some of his first work in Lodi was to help build the Lodi Academy and the Lodi English Adventist church of which he was a member for many years.
He was the father of Carl L. Abbott, Omaha, Nebraska; I.R. Abbott, Campbell, California; Mrs. J.H. Welch and Jay S. Abbott, Lodi; Alvin V. Abbott, Stockton; Mrs. R.C. Sheldon, San Jose; Mrs. W.E. Clark, Arlington, Calif.
He was the grandfather of Floyd Abbott, Miss Jennett Abbott, Miss Jewell Abbott, J.B. Welch, Donald Welch, Miss Barbara Abbott, Dorothy Abbott, Etta Jean Abbott, Marie Abbott, Betty Joe Abbott, Miss Nadine Sheldon, Evelyn Sheldon, Jo Anne Sheldon and Sharon Lee Abbott.
