Kenneth M. Bruland passed away September 13, 2005. He was born in Bellingham on May 22, 1914, to Andrew and Lisa Jensen Bruland.

Dad was always very dedicated to his family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois McKinnon, and loving wife of 49 years, Rita Chartier Bruland. They had three children, Dick (Sharon) Bruland, Roger (Deborah) Bruland, and Patricia (Ron) Henry; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Dad was always checking on their whereabouts and well being.

Mom died in 1983. Dad later married Frieda Correll Bruland, a longtime family, adding two children, Ron Correll, Barbra (Tim) Aldrich, and six more grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren to his family. Dad and Frieda lived their last few years in Correll Park in Ferndale.

Dad went to work for Weldit Tank and Steel in 1941. He was well known for his expertise in making parts from specialty steels used in shipbuilding and heavy machinery. In 1961 he moved to Everett as a shop foreman for Western Gear, in charge of building huge amphibious vehicles (BARCs) and other large machinery. He retired in 1979 and moved back to Ferndale.

Dad was an avid outdoorsman and always had a boat and enjoyed salmon, steelhead and trout fishing. He hunted deer, elk and other big game. He spent countless hours gardening and puttering in his shop. Dad bowled and golfed, but his true enjoyment came from baseball; from playing to managing his daughter's softball team to becoming an avid Mariner's fan.

Funeral services will be held Saturday Sept 17 at 11 am in the Greenacres|Moles Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Jim Florence officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice.
