Mr. Cecil C. Sanders, 86, of Gerhartz Road, Palatine Bridge, New York died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at his home. Born on February 22, 1928 in Hallsville, NY, he was the son of the late Isac Sanders and Ida Moore Sanders. He was a graduate of Fort Plain High School and was a lifetime area resident. Mr. Sanders retired from the Village of Canajoharie in March 1993, after working there for 20 years, previously working for Freebear Farms in Palatine Bridge for over 20 years. He was a member of the Saving Grace Baptist Church in Fonda, NY, where he served as Deacon. Recently he attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Stone Arabia. Mr. Sanders was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army as a Private in the Pacific Theater. He also served as a M.P. and trained as a medic. He enjoyed reading. On May 21, 1950 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Plain, Cecil was married to Elsie J. Gehring. She preceded him in death on January 8, 2011. He was also predeceased by 4 brothers, Raymond Sanders, Leland Sanders, Isaac Sanders, Everett Sanders and 2 sisters, Frances Hull and Arlene Horning. Mr. Sanders is survived by his 2 sons, Calvin Sanders and Heidi Linke of Ilion, NY, Chris and Betty Sanders of Palatine Bridge, NY; 2 daughters, Cynthia and Rick Moxham of Fort Plain, NY, Carol and Randy Crabill of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, Lee Sanders of Fort Plain, NY; sister, Viola Johnson of St. Johnsville, NY; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at Noon at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Rev. Wade Prime and Rev. Zachary Labagh co-officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 10:00-12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
