Sylvia “Syb” Olive Schwanke was born Oct. 25, 1918, to Albert and Frieda (Kutke) Schwanke in Owatonna. She received her education in Owatonna Public Schools, graduating from Owatonna High School. For a short time, Syb worked at various placed in Owatonna.

In 1943, Syb married Verlan Kilbourne in Duluth, while Verlan was serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In 1945, Verlan and Syb moved to Windom, where Syb was a homemaker, raising their five children.

After Verlan’s death in 1986, Syb continued living near Windom until recently becoming a resident of Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom.

She was a member of the Lakeside Extension Group for many years as well as Bible study groups.

In addition to her husband Verlan, Syb was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Kilbourne; and a brother, Earl Schwanke.
