In March of 1870, the family came to the U.S. They settled in Ohio where their third child was born and were still going by Davis. In about 1872 the family moved to St. Louis and took back the Cody surname. In St. Louis they had five more children. In 1885, their two young daughters passed away. Thomas died in 1888.
On May 3, 1894, Elizabeth married Frederick Thatcher in St. Louis, Missouri. She died of tuberculosis at her daughter Sadie's home in St. Louis. Her sons, Thomas, John and David, all died of the same disease.
