Wendell was the son of Jacob and Garnet Atwater Hinnen. He married Ermelinda "Linda" Martinez on June 21, 1974, and she survives.
Surviving are four children, Manuel "Curley" (Deanne) Crawford, Mary Rossen (late George Rossen), Bob (Darla) Crawford and Marge (Dick) Mooberry; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Wendell was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from May 3, 1951, until being honorably discharged on May 6, 1953.
He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 32 years before retiring in 1982. He also worked seasonably for Nestle USA in Morton.
