Jan grew up on a dairy farm. From an early age, she learned the work ethics of farm life and she enjoyed relating stories of her and her brothers experiences.

After high school, Jan pursued her ambition to be a nurse. During her early career as a Registered Nurse, she labored in direct patient care which was her passion. Jan was one of the most compassionate individuals one could ever meet. This loving nature in her often led to her placing other people's needs in front of her own. This characteristic made her one of the best nurses ever known in Boise.

Unfortunately, Jan's career in direct care was cut short when a drunk driver broadsided her vehicle and nearly killed her. The injuries sustained in the accident would preclude the heavy lifting required to remain in direct care.

Jan turned her eye towards the State of Idaho's Department of Health & Welfare where she was able to use her nursing skills to better the lives of all Idahoans.

Jan married the love of her life, Don Cheever, January 1, 1983. They celebrated their anniversary each year on New Year's Eve. When Don became too ill with cancer to be left alone, Jan took leave of absence from work to take care of him. Jan & Don had hoped to celebrate their anniversary on Y2K (Don had worked for IBM so the date had much significance to them), but he passed away 3 months short of their 17th wedding anniversary.

Jan also took care of her dad (2003) and her father (2005) as their times came. Jan continued working for Idaho Medicaid until her retirement in 2005. Her co-workers were sad to see her leave, but her health would no longer allow full-time employment. Jan then went on to be her mother's primary care giver during her last years on earth (2008).

Marrying later in life, Jan & Don never had children of their own. Her nieces & nephews held a special place in her heart and she often doted on them.

True to her nature, when Jan's own time came, she requested no services and no obituary. She never ever wanted to impose her "problems" on other people and those types of things she perceived could be a burden to family & friends.

Jan was the best friend a person could ever wish for.

Have a great next life!
