C. L. Preston Dies After Short Illness

Charles Leonard Preston of 14 Chesterfield Road, prominent insurance executive and investment banker, died on Friday of last week at the Cornell Medical Center, New York, after a brief illness. He was forty-four. Funeral services were held at the residence Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Dr. George H. Smyth, pastor of the Hitchcock Memorial Church, officiating. Burial was private. Mr. Preston, who had lived in Scarsdale for the last seven years, was born in Nelsonville, Ohio, son of Mrs. Marie E. Preston and the late Leonard S. Preston. He attended Ohio State University. Before entering the investment business in 1925, he operated coal mines in West Virginia and Ohio. At the time of his death, Mr. Preston was president of the George Washington Life Insurance Company of Charleston, West Virginia, a position he assumed in 1933, and was also vice-president and a partner of Preston, James and Company, 44 Wall Street, investment banking firm. Surviving are his mother; his wife, Mrs. Mabelle Preston; a son, Charles L. Preston, Jr.; two daughters, the Misses Jane and Louise Preston, all of Scarsdale; and a brother, Emmett L. Preston of Columbus, Ohio.
