She was born in Clarksburg, WV, August 18, 1920 a daughter of the late Roy Lee and Edna (Williams) Hatten.
Her husband Ebert Merritt preceded her in death in November of 1970.
Charlotte was a loving mother, and grandmother. She worked very hard raising her children and her grandchildren, they were her pride and joy, and she loved each and every one of them. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, farming, canning, cooking, and loved to bake. She was a member of the former Flemington Church of God. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are: one daughter, Violet L. Teets, of Simpson; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren; one step daughter, Myrtle Reed, of Moatsville; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by: four daughters, Mary Bartlett, Fanny Drummond, Catherine McKinney, and Virginia Lou Smith; nine children in infancy; two grandsons, several great grandchildren; three sisters, Effie Oliver, Betty Halley, and Ruth Boross; and seven brothers, Ray Hatten, Ike Hatten, Bobby Hatten, Harry Hatten, Roy Lee Hatten, General Hatten, and Jack Hatten.
Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, on Thursday, May 1st from 3-8 PM, and Friday, May 2nd from 9 AM until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon, Friday, May 2, 2014, at the funeral home with Rev. William McCallister officiating. Interment will follow at the Rosemont IOOF Cemetery.
