DEATH OF THOR OLAUS HANSON OF BODE. Memorial services will soon be arranged by the Iowa house of representatives to honor T.O. Hanson of Bode, who was a member of the legislature from Humboldt county in the Thirty-second and Thirty-third general assemblies. In 1913 he was talked of as a candidate for congress from the Tenth congressional district of Iowa, but opn account of his health and love for home declined to enter the race. He was one of the most prominent men in northern Iowa and was highly esteemed by the large circle of acquaintances among Iowans which he enjoyed, while his friends had the deepest affection for him, admiration for his rugged character, and appreciation of his helpfulness. He died at his home in Bode the past wee, aged 55 years. He was born in Wisconsin, moved to Estherville in 1869, was educated at Luther college at Decorah, taught school for eight years at Bode. Thor and Seneca went into the land business in 1886, then into mercantile business in Bode in 1889, became cashier of the State Bank of Bode, and last year was elected president of the State Savings Bank there. He was president of the Rural Union Telephone company. He was the first mayor of Bode, and also held the office in 1912 and 1913. For thirteen years he served as one of the school directors. From 1910 on, he served as a member of the “Kirkeraad” of the Norwegian Lutheran Synod Church of America, and from 1912 on, he served as a member of the board of visitors of Luther college, in whose faculty he was offered a position in 1889. On March 1, 1885 he was married to Miss Julia Jenson of Senaca, Ia., on the Peter Jenson place. To this union seven children were born; Minnie, Joseph, George, Laila, Thora, Helmer and Esther, who with their mother survive him.

Bode, Feb. 9–Thor O. Hanson died yesterday, of anemia. Mr. Hanson was 56 years of age, was born in Perry, Wis., and moved to Estherville in 1869. He received his education in the rural schools and Luther College, and came to Bode in 1889. He was the first mayor and has always been prominent in politics, being a republican. He was representative in Thirty-second and Thirty-third assemblies, cashier of the State Bank of Bode for twenty years, and at his death was president of the State Savings Bank. He leaves a wife and seven children. Altho a comparatively young man he was well to do. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon.
